Picasa Web Albums

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Well, that’s it. I have deleted my Flickr account for good. Decided to stick with Google and their Picasa Web service. For one I kept forgetting my user name and password for Flickr and most importantly it’s owned by Yahoo!, so there was always a theological question mark over my membership.

Picasa Web is much easier for a number of reasons. First is the Google Picasa application itself, it’s fantastic for organising photographs and images on your PC. Second was the news that Picasa Web had increased my web space from 250MB to 1GB and counting (á la Gmail). Another recent addition is the ability to tag images in a similar way to Flickr.

The final reason was that my Google sign-on is uniform across many different services Email, Blogging, Docs and Spreadsheets, Co-Op Searches, Calendar, Messaging, Domain Services, Groups, webmaster tools etc. Saves me having to remember too many user names and passwords!

Paisley says Brits out

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

In a joint letter (which wasn’t an April Fools) Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness have written to the Secretary of State Peter Hain to ask him to relocate from Stormont Castle. This is in order for the incoming government uber-compromise to move in, and maybe to divide it up: ‘Northern (still British) Stormont Castle‘ and the ‘almost-Republic of Stormont Castle‘.

Stormont Castle was the headquarters of the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (or OFMDFM, as no one knows it as) during devolution. Since direct rule has been the main offices of the Northern Ireland Office. Don’t worry though - the NIO will still have Hillsborough Castle to rough-it-out in.

Not that Mr Hain really cares where the Secretary of State works, hopeful he won’t be there much longer.
