Summer Sludge

A Marine Conservation Society report says that this summer’s weather has left some of Northern Ireland’s beaches - including Ballyholme, Carnlough and Newcastle - covered in raw sewage and other waste sludge. The Belfast Telegraph says this leaves the beaches at a standard lower than that required by the European Union.

Ths summer storms swept a large amount of raw sewage and rubbish out to sea which was subsequently washed back inland. The news highlights the need for radical reform of storm drains and sewage disposal system, and yes, maybe even water charges to fund it.
