Legal threat for unblocking iPhone

According to BBC News UniquePhones have cracked Apples new iPhone. The iPhone is supposed to be blocked so users can only use it with the supplied phone company.
The Belfast-based firm were ready to release the codes for sale on the 25 August but after a 3am phone call from a Californian law claiming to represent AT&T - Apple’s carrier in the United States - the release was put on hold. They are currently seeking legal advice.
As it stands Apple still have time to modify the phone before it goes on sale in the United Kingdom so any ‘hacks’ won’t work to the finalised phones.
