NI Broadband to become three times faster
Thursday, February 22nd, 2007
It has been announced today that Northern Ireland will be the first region in the United Kingdom to be fully covered by BT’s 21st Century Network.
The 21st Century Network is a plan to convert the UK’s current AXE/System X Public Switched Telephone Network to a fully Internet Protocol dependent system for both voice and data services.
The main impact, for me anyway, will be the increase in Broadband internet access speeds. By 2010 all of Northern Ireland 160 exchanges could see a three times increase in their Broadband speeds. Currently everyone has access to an 8Mb/s connection, this could be increased to a 24Mb/s connection.
Woo hoo!
