Photoblog - White Rocks beach, Portrush

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Some pictures from an early evening trip to White Rocks beach, just east of Portrush. As you can probably tell a Sony Ericsson K750i doesn’t really do the sunset justice.

Swimmers will be pleased to know that at the Environment and Heritage Services Beach Dose Rate Monitoring (in 2003) concluded that the beach had a 0.071 Gamma Dose Rate (uGy/hr) and the beaches sediment type is Sand.

This post also gives me a chance to try out Google Picasa Web’s new flash slideshow to go (currently only available in the American language version). Let me know how you get on.

BBC content to appear on YouTube, legally.

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

The BBC has today started providing content on video community site YouTube. The Beeb will supply three channels on the site:

The BBC channel will provide content which is UK orientated , with no advertising. The second BBC Worldwide channel will provide content for an international audience and will contain “a limited amount of advertising.” The third, BBC World, channel will be similar to the BBC World TV channel, and will also be funded through advertising. It won’t be available for British internet users.

Personally, I like the idea but can’t help feeling that the BBC could done this much better on their own, without the need to involve YouTube. Take BBC Two for example, or the current video content on BBC News. It would have been much better if the Beeb created their own version of the flash video player and hosted it all on their own extensive web servers.

Time Magazine Person of the Year is us, apparently

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Time Magazine has named you as its person of the Year. It’s all down to our control of the information age, and I would like to take a little credit for Keithblog. Time attribute it to so-called Web 2.0, the revolution that is Blogger, YouTube, Bebo, Wikipedia, del.icio.us, ….
